Damon Pt Beach
Ocean Shores, WA

Extending nearly a mile into Grays Harbor Bay, Damon Pt Beach (AKA, Protection Island; nicknamed "Agate Beach"), is an approximately 61-acre natural area adjacent to the Washington State Game Reserve and Marina off of Marine View Dr SE.  Visited by locals and tourists alike, this Beach is a popular place to fish and walk along the shores collecting agates (no cars allowed on this beach).  Sometimes you can see kite surfers and kayak surfers enjoying the waves.  Enjoy fishing off the shores, and even throwing in your crab pot by the "submerged" Jetty (requires licenses from DFW).  It also offers excellent views of the many wildlife, the shipping lanes by Westport, the Olympic Mountains, Mt Rainier, and Westport just across the Bay.  Sometimes the Snowy White Owl will migrate here.  There has been a lot of erosion here, so the landscape has changed over the many years.  In the 2012 pictures below, you can see the old road that used to go out onto this peninsula.  In 2007, the S.S. Catala shipwreck (from 1965) was removed.  I remember visiting this shipwreck in 2004-2006...it was a neat site.

The Marina, located directly next door, is owned by the Quinault Indian Nation....under "2024" pictures below, you can see the last 2 pictures are of the Marina.  It costs $5 to launch a boat out into the Bay...but, beware to launch and retrieve only during high tide.
