Flag Day Parade 2013
Ocean Shores, WA
June 8, 2013 ~ Ocean Shores honors Old Glory by holding its annual Flag Day Parade, one of the few parades left in the United States....patriotism still lives here. We have many retirees who are veterans living in Ocean Shores and they, as well as current Military and EMT. Parade watchers line Pt Brown Ave NW and W. Chance a La Mer Ave to watch the presentation of our Nation's Symbol by marching bands, drill teams, politicians, companies, non-profit organizations, and local clubs, citizens, and military personnel. The parade began with the United States Lewis-McChord Army flag bearers. A new entrant this year was the North Beach Jr/Senior High Marching Band...I was proud to see them. The Grand Marshal was Miss Washington Mandy Shendel riding in a classic convertible.
There were over 65 entries, including the very partiotic Ocean Shores Yacht Club boat, the Twin Star Credit Union "Celebrating 75 Years" float, the Spananway Juinior High marching band, and BOOM!....the Pirate Ship Black Rose. The cutest presentation was by the Hospitality Association of Ocean Shores who had charactors from Super Mario Brothers video game...Mario on a plumbers race cart and the Princess. Another new entrant was Ronald McDonald...it was great to see our local McDonald's participate. What would a classic American parade be without the classic and muscle cars?.....from the 1940's to the brand new Corvettes....these car owners revved their engines along the streets. There also was a line of Mini Coopers from the local Mini Cooper club. Towards the end of the parade, local heroes were showcased, ie the Ocean Shores Fire and Police departments.
Another feature were animals....dogs by North Beach Paws, horses from the local stables outside of Ocean Shores, and 2 new ones: Grays Harbor Indoor Pro Rodeo represented by regal horses and their riders holding the American Flag; and Picasso the Camel, which you can ride at the Playtime Family Fun Center.
